The Honest Position

Carpet is difficult to recycle. It is a mix of face fibre, backing and adhesive, and separating those economically is genuinely hard. Nationally, most carpet still goes to landfill.

We are not going to claim we recycle everything, because that would not be true. What we do is divert what can realistically be diverted and be straight with you about the rest.

What We Do

• Separate materials on site where practical. Padding, tack strip and carpet are different waste streams and mixing them guarantees the whole lot is landfilled.
• Divert nylon carpet where a recycler is taking it. Nylon 6 and 6,6 have genuine recycling routes; polyester and olefin are harder.
• Reuse offcuts. Usable remnants go to customers who want them for closets, garages, workshops or pet areas. Just ask on the day.
• Recycle packaging. Plank comes in a lot of cardboard and it does not need to go to landfill.

What You Can Do

If your existing carpet is genuinely in good condition and you are replacing it for style rather than wear, tell us before install day. Sound carpet can sometimes go to a habitat reuse store or a community organisation rather than a skip. Once it is up and folded it is much harder to place.

Same for baseboard and trim in good condition.

Vinyl Plank

Removed LVP is more recyclable than carpet in principle, though the routes are still limited locally. Where a floor is being lifted intact — occasionally the case on a flip where the previous owner’s taste was the only problem — it can sometimes be reused rather than scrapped.

Why This Page Exists

Because “sustainability” on a small contractor’s website is usually a page of stock photography and no specifics. Hauling away old flooring is a real environmental act with real choices in it, and this is the honest version of what those choices are.
