Why the Padding Matters More Than the Carpet
Homeowners choose carpet by look and price. Carpet fails because of what is underneath it.
Padding is the component that absorbs traffic, and the thinnest legal option is what gets quoted when a price has to look competitive. It compresses within a couple of years, at which point the carpet above it starts wearing against the subfloor and the traffic lanes appear. You then replace a carpet that was never actually worn out.
We quote decent padding as standard and tell you what we are putting down. It adds a modest amount to the job and it is the single biggest factor in how long the floor lasts.
Carpet Types We Fit
- Plush and textured — soft underfoot, ideal for bedrooms.
- Frieze — twisted fibre that hides footprints and vacuum marks well.
- Berber and loop — hard-wearing, good for traffic areas, though loops and pet claws can disagree.
- Patterned — adds interest in formal rooms and on stairs.
- Stain- and pet-resistant systems — genuinely effective now, and worth it with animals in the house.
Where Carpet Still Beats Plank
Vinyl plank has taken over Florida living areas, and rightly. But carpet is still the better answer in three places:
- Bedrooms — warmth and quiet where it matters most.
- Stairs — safer underfoot and much quieter in a two-story house.
- Upstairs generally — sound transfer to rooms below is the complaint we hear most from people who put hard flooring throughout.
