Stairs Wear Out First

In any two-story house, every trip between floors concentrates on the same fourteen treads. The staircase and the upstairs landing are almost always visibly worse than the rest of the carpet, often years before anything else needs replacing.

That makes the stair run the single highest-impact job available: a fraction of a whole-home price, and it makes the house feel redone. In communities like FishHawk, Tampa Palms and Hunter’s Green it is one of the most common jobs we do.

Wrapped Versus Capped

There are two ways to carpet a stair, and they do not look the same.

• Waterfall — the carpet runs over the nose of the tread and straight down. Faster, cheaper, and it reads as builder-grade.
• Upholstered (wrapped) — the carpet is fitted around the contour of each tread and riser. It takes considerably longer and it looks like a finished piece of joinery.

We do both and we will show you the difference. On curved returns — common in River Hills, Hunter’s Green and Beach Park — wrapping is the only option that looks right, and we do it in-house rather than subbing it out.

Baseboards Close the Job Out

New flooring against old, paint-clogged, scuffed baseboard makes the floor look worse than it is. Replacing the baseboard as part of the job is comparatively inexpensive and it is what makes a room read as properly finished.

• New baseboard including 5¼″, which suits most modern Florida ceiling heights.
• Quarter round and shoe molding where a floating floor needs an expansion gap covered.
• Transitions and thresholds between rooms and at sliders.

Transitions Matter More Than People Expect

A beautiful floor with a clumsy threshold reads as cheap. Doorways, level changes between original and extended sections, and slider thresholds are where installations visibly succeed or fail — particularly in older South Tampa and Hyde Park homes where floor heights rarely match.
